Scandinavian kids clothing – NORDINARY

I am in love with scandinavian design when it comes to kids clothes – its fun and usually its all about using sustainable materials. The brand are really thinking about what kids like and not the adults…I mean correct me if im wrong but babies can much easier see strong primary colors then blue and pink pastells – no offens. And clothes are also there to trigger their imagination.

I know this – I have a son of 2.5 and sometimes its hard to get dressed for kindergarden in the morning but if I tell him to put on the extremely cool airplane tshirt or his sweater with his buddy the printed elk on it then it goes a lot faster!

I found this web – another mom who seems to think like me.  She has this web shop were she sells clothes and toys for kids up to 6 years old.  Some of the things are just : I want it know!

Check out NORDINARY – below is a peak look  of what she offers in the store.

Ecological floors…

Ok… so I really really want a wooden floor in my apartment.

Currently we have this stone ( ? ) in pinkish and its freezing not to mention fairly ugly.  But here is the deal – wooden floors, any wooden floor means usually cutting down trees and we do not want that only to please my sore eyes so…. what can I then do if I want a nice wooden floor?

Well I can use cork! Check out this web page of the company WICANDERS and the huge range of colours availble! Could well serve even the most selective of us all.

And the best is that we get design with clear concious. No bad feelings or guilt at all.

And the best is that we get design with clear concious. No bad feelings or guilt at all.

Basically the reason is as per below discription form wicanders web:

The tree has a life span of 250-350 years. Each cork tree must be 20 to 25 years old before it can provide its first harvest of cork bark. This cork is known as virgin and has a hard and irregular structure. After the virgin cork has been stripped, a new layer of cork begins to grow.

A typical tree produces several hundred kilograms of cork at each harvesting and will survive for many generations. The bark is stripped off the tree in sections by highly skilled men using special axes, a traditional manual skill that dates back many hundreds of years.

Cork is harvested on a sustainable basis and the stripping of the bark does not harm the tree in any way. The bark grows back completely, taking on a smoother texture after each harvest. A cork oak tree can be safely harvested up to 20 times during its life cycle, making cork a truly inexhaustible natural resource.

New plantations of cork oak trees are planted each year to ensure the level of cork production is maintained. Cork oak trees cannot be felled or removed without government authorization, which is rarely granted.

In a context of increasing concern for the environment, cork remains the only tree whose bark can regenerate itself after each harvest – leaving the tree unharmed.

So at least Im gonna check out the nearest stockist and see if I finally can get my wooden floor in almost black cork!

The perfect T-shirt

As the title sais: I think I have found the perfect t-shirt. It seems to have the perfect low v-neck, a little loose, washed very fine organic cotton and very pure.

Combine it with  a pair of slouchy leggings and 7 years washed out denim jacket. All from the brand BASSIKE. Photos below are a sneak peak of what you can buy on line on their web.

As the founders of BASSIKE puts it: ‘ current, eternal and effortless, each piece is designed to work seperately but also in conjunction ‘

Home Farming – Growing food in the living room by Philips

Home Farming, as the name suggests, explores growing at least part of your daily food inside your house. “People are increasingly concerned about how their food has been manipulated and processed, genetic modification, global shortages, environmental degradation through monoculture, the distance food travels before reaching their plates and many other related issues,” says van Heerden. “One way of addressing such legitimate concerns is to source the food yourself by having a biosphere in your living room.” This Biophere home farm contains fish, crustaceans, algae, plants and other mini-ecosystems, all interdependent and in balance with each other. Making families all over the world at least partly self-sufficient in this way has obvious appeal.
