Green Eyed Monster – super cool kids clothes from UK

Just went browsing for some new spring t-shirts from my son, he does grow fast and you just end up buying a lot of clothes. That is why I want my sons wardrobe to be all eco and why no fair trade too. So wonderful to have him actually grow in truely good clothes, for him and for his future.

But of course they should be fun too! Im a very visual person and I love fun quirky prints! So i’m so happy to have found GREEN EYED MONSTER from the UK who also have a webshop if you are not near to one of their stores ( my situation… ) filled with t-shirts, knits, jeans, bed linnens and baby creams and so much more. Check out the photos below.

As the people from GREEN EYES MONSTER sums it up: unique and contemporary designs created by some of the newest talent from around the globe, lovingly crafted from beautifully soft organic and fair trade materials. Sounds close to perfect!

AFROART – fairtrade

Rorke’s Drift was / is not only a famous battle which I won’t discuss here, but also an art school in Southafrica in the 60’s – 70’s with mainly swedish art teachers. The objects that were created soon became a huge success and soon Afroart was open back in 1967 in Stockholm throught the initiative by Jytte Bonnier.

Now run by 6 textile designers and huge fans of handkrafts from all over the world – the idea of the store continues  to show and sell handkrafts from all over the world, to help people in the 3rd world through fairtrade and to when possible use ecological and sustainable materials.

I personally visited the Afroart store last time I was home and I could have bought so many things!!! The colours are fantastic and also the materials – and there is a soul in each of the objects that only something made by the human hand can have.

Please visit the store on line – you will be amazed!

REWARDROPE

On the other side of the Atlantic lies this really cute store called Rewardrobe.

The idea is basic: selling second hand clothes in the name of lowering this absurd consumption hectic habits we have but the approach feels so fresh and positive: recycle, refresh, renew!

Just go into their web and you will see what I mean: up beat energy encourage you to resell clothes you dont use anymore or why  not pump them up with a new fresh look: add some accessory, shorten a skirt, adding a patch….the ideas can go on forever.

You just need to contact the store follow the easy steps shown in a very cute illutration and hope that they have space and can accept what you need to sell.  If so you will have the possibility to make some money and not just throw things away when its not fashionable anymore according to you. Maybe someone else find your things adorable! And maybe you go there and find something adorable too from someone elses wardrope – who knows.

Photos below are from their website.

JOHN PATRICK

ah what a joy!

it is just so inspiring to see these pictures of the launch of ww fashion collection JOHN PATRICK fall winter 2010 /11  – everyone first of all looks happy. They look like they are doing something they really believe i. Enjoying it!

And that is what fashion should be -  a tool to send a message to people, a positive message that we can dress fabulous and still be responsible for earth – our future. The last part might sound less then glamorous but why is that so? Why is it that the minute we think eco fashion we think boring, grey and dull…when its something completely different: its trendy, its cool, its true beauty.

You can be a treehugger and still wear high heels!

Fashion is if not number one industry the pollutes our home. And if we as consumers dont make healthy choices then who will for us? We have to take a stand. And who better to do it with then JOHN PATRICK.

I hope to be able to have some more info about him and his line soon but for now see the glorious pics below taken by Margo Dooney from the NY city launch.

JOHN PATRICK is also availble at below Barney’s ( they do international shipping…)

Look good and feel good

Above statement is from fashion brand Kuyuchi – organic denim from Neatherlands. Super cool clothes for men and women.I personally would love to fill my wardrope with them!

Since the year 2000 organic denim KUYUCHI is now represented in over 500 stores just in EUROPE.  It is great to see how the eco casual wear is growing!  And its not really thanks to the econess of the collection but to the great design.

Check out there web for more looks for the comming season but here is a sneak preview.

PS they have developed jeans from PET bottles – yes plastic! I cant wait to see them in a store here in Barcelona!

HUDSON FURNITURE NEW YORK

I find it very hard to find ecological furniture unless of course you go for second hand or antiques, which has its own problems – either difficult to find in good condition or very expensive.

At least that is the current situation where I live so what to do?

If I lived in NEW YORK I would go and get inspired at HUDSON FURNITURE. None of the woods are harvested from old growth forests. The wood they use are domestically sourced from either salvages trees or wind / storm damages trees. As Barlas Baylar, Hudson Furniture’s founder and designer puts it: ” We put high regard and value on these trees by turning them into pieces of enduring art instead of leaving them out to decay “.
I find them excuisit…almost perfection it self. The design is half nature half man made -  I love the clean organic lines and the mix between warmness of wood and the cold metals. The workman ship is excuisit. I wouldn’t dare asking the price of one of these rare items though – I prefer dreaming them up in my home.

Window farming!

In my search for a way to have a garden in my garden-less and balcony-less apartment I came across this project Windowfarming. It is genious: it is very decorative, you will have greens and fresh herbs at hand when cooking and the best one yet: you use recycled local materials to build it yourself….and it works for most of the people who have tried it so, why wouldn’t it do it for me.

Take a look on the video below and then join the project! Let’s make our city greener together!

Home sweet by Jennifer Nelson

Handcut printing blocks with water based inks is what Jennifer Nelson uses when creating her wonderfull patterns that decorates pillows, lampshades and table runners for her eco textile design company HOME SWEET.

The prints makes me think of the 60’s and some have a vague resemplence of art noveau and japanese block prints.

They are all fantastic – most likely beacuase its handkrafted pieces made with the patience and passion of an artist.

the KEY – eco fashion fair

I am so happy – this eco fashion fair ‘the KEY ‘ in Berlin actually seems to work.

It might, sooner then I think, become mainstream to consume only eco-friendly when it comes to fashion.

I would love to go in the summer to check this out! But in the mean time I’m happy to browse the web that is full of pleasing information.
