ecological living – style without compromise

If I was a surfer dude….

If I was a surfer, which i’m not, but if I was I would defenatly try to get my hands on one of these almost 100% ecological surfboards from  KUN-TIQI.

They are beautifull and that is why I put in a post about surf boards. Well there is a slight image of mr Slater and his friends that keeps coming back in my head….

hmmm….anyways maybe this was how the boards were made back in the first days of surf. All natural material:

- Balsa is the ligh- test wood of all and was already used as a transport float in South America 1000 years before the Inka Empire. This plant is one of the fastest growing species, reaching a height of up to 10 meter and a diameter of 20-25 cm within 3-4 years. Balsa wood is a fast growing, sustainable and recyclable raw material, producing no toxic substances.

-The lineseed oil resin, which characterizes 98 % of our resin, is a sustainable raw material, which is neither toxic nor carci- nogen and furthermore, comes out of renewable recources.

- The surface is laminated with fibreglass made of silica sand. Since Balsa wood is hard and almost unbreakable, only little quantities of fibreglass are needed.  Unfortunately the production still requires some fossil energy, but Kun_tiqi is trying hard to improve this process to reduce any negative effect on the environment.

As the Kun-tiqi fellas say: they are surfriders who care. And I think we all should.

Righteous Fashion

Another scandinavian eco friendly fashion house. And  I am so happy  – I just keep finding more and more excellent options of super nice clothes produced with some good healthy ethics then buying at one of the huge chain stores  that really could take their responsablity for the future of our kids a bit more seriously…

Righteous Fashion was started by Kajsa Cappelen Holst and Paula Kermfors some years back after having studied Human Rights Law in Sweden and realizing there is a lot to be done, especially in the huge industry of fashion! As they say: you dont need to comprise good style for the sake of ecological production – you can have them both!

They have chosen to work with organic textile manufacturers and farmers from UGANDA, NEPAL, INDIA and MAURITSIUS. They follow the fair trade principles: for example they support the equal rights principle at MAURITSIUS where 25 % of the workers are handicapped and they also re-invest money in projects to help women entrepreneurs in AFRICA and support sustainable farming.

All cottons are 100 % ecological and the wool cashmere yarns has been vegetable dyed. They are striving for a production with minimum impact on earth.

Below is some photos of there spring summer collection 2010: beatifull petrol blues, dove greys and natural tones in soft shapes and asemetric cuts. I want the petrol blue long tank top dress!!!

HESS NATUR – design for life

When going through HESS NATUR web shop I read the following about ‘who they are’:

We are not a not-for-profit organization, though we work closely with excellent ones every day.

We are in business to make money. It’s how we choose to make it that matters to us and, hopefully, to you too.

Ah so refreshing to read. And the more you read the more you want to take the next plane to Germany and start working for them:

- all cottons are ecological

- they are working with farmers to develop and offer all natural fibers ecologically produced

- only fair trade

- clothing lines for the whole family: mens wear, womens wear, kids and babywear that you can buy on line

- their working environment seems very human and very resepctfull to the importance of the family. The building has been made to reduce to the maximum energy costs, all paints and materials are non toxic, flexible hours or part time if necessary, family is welcome to the top foor cafeteria at lunch time, comuting with company bus, no aircondition or elevator, recycling to maximum,  and encourage life long learning buy offering at classes in anything from pilate to mandarin

They have learn such a simple lesson: if your workers are happy, feels satisfied and inspired with what they do..they will certainly make a better job!

And that will help the buisness – your buisness -  at the end of the day.

Well take a look at their website – there filosophy and happy energy will inspire you!

Ecological cardboard furniture nr 2

Australien company BELKIZ has launched their first baby feeding chair for ‘parents on the go’ made out of cardboard.

Being a parent it sounds a bit crazy but look at these following facts about the feedaway:

- 100% recycable and made out of 100% recycable material too

- lightweight

- Belkiz has received INPAA  (Infant and Nursery Products Association of Australia) accreditation by “Baby Safety”, for full filling their requirements and quality standards

- from 6 – 20 kg and can be used up to 30 days at 6 feeds a day.

- A non-toxic food coating is used so that Feedaway can be cleaned after each meal

- it can be customized since its all made out of cardboard

Check out photos below – I think its pretty cool and it looks sturdy and fun!
