Sometimes I wish I lived in JAPAN

Not only for the noodles, nor the sushi or the mochis that would make my husband shiver of joy, but for the design and aesthetics of JAPAN. Has there ever been a country showing more respect to everyday beauty then them. Just think of how they serve even the most humble lunch meals or how they wrap gifts or make handwriting into an art. I could go on forever to please just stop me and take a look at below photos from well known interior brand HIRUMATSU.

It`s just a perfect harmony beween the natural beauty of the material, the clean, harmonic lines and the everyday usability of the object.  Someone told me that they work with ecological materials and the production process has to follow certain criteria so since I am writing a post about them I sure hope its true. Its a shame I dont know japanese so I cant really guide you around the fantastic web…if there is anyone out there who would like to comment where I could buy these furniture  I would love to hear it.

the fantastic WOODEN RADIO

If I’ll ever buy a new radio or I have to make an extrodinary gift to someone close then I will keep this fantastic wooden radio in mind. After all it did win the Brit Design Award 2009 and for a reason!

The wooden radio by Singgih Susilo Kartono is fabricated by hand, piece by piece. The quality is pine and east indian rosewood and all of the wood has been handpicked from the nearby sourroundings in JAVA by the designer him self.  This is what he has to say about the  tree:

‘the wood I use for the manufacturing process may need as long as 50 years to reach maturity. I want people not only to think about exotic or precious woods but likewise about the fact that good things require time. All objects that surround us should be thought-provoking. Craftsmanship originally was the art of dealing with raw materials in a sensible and economical way ‘

Kartono and his 12 wood handicraftsmen replace the wood that has been used by planting new trees systematically. A small tree nursery has been set up on the company’s compound. The seedlings are planted on regular basis, with the collaboration of students at the local high school.
