My ecological cleaning products

I’m working on it: I would say that approximately 65% of our cleaning products for the home is ecological. Not good enough but ok. Just a year ago it was almost down to zero so there is hope!

Make a commitment you too!

Plant in book?

Books are to me one of the more precious art objects around. And they are originally trees that are natures masterpieces. What if we could merge the two? What a wonderfull idea no?

YES, that is just what two italians has thought of in their Gartenkultur project.

They take a book, they make a hole and they insulate thus protect the book from humidity with a mixture of vegetal glue that is a water based glossy varnish for wood, completely ecological. Then they fill the hole with soil and plant a tree that is ready to grow and live and prosper in this inovative book vase. This new ecological form of the book  is recycable, has been reycled and is a living breathing beautifull decoration interior object for your home. Its really really pretty to look at – especially for one like me that loves plants and books. Currently they are only available stores in northern Italy but soon they will also have an on-line shop.

DACE – canadian fashion brand

Dace Moore is the girl behind the canadian WW brand DACE.   The look is very clean, fresh and crispy. Young and easy to wear.  The collection has just the right amount of trend percentage – she is not overdoing it but nor ignoring what’s happening on the streets. And its a very ageless collection too, very flattering.

I once heard that its pointless to make ecological fashion garments in a non ecological collection since you have to put so much money into the marketing of those pieces. I never understood that. Why should I look at ecological pieces differently then on non ecological pieces? I mean in a pure estetic matter it does not matter so why not do it? You are not marketing 100 % cotton if you do that – you are marketing a look most of the times,  so why do you have to think you have to invest it marketing when using organic cotton? I hope you understand my point.

Its just not a good enough reason not to try to take responsability and do it. So that is why I especially like DACE. They try doing organic when they can, plus they manufacture and produe locally.

I would love to wear one of these beautifull organic cotton dresses below during the hot summer here in Barcelona. Maybe I can get it at BUNKA shop in Madrid where they sell DACE!

Barney’s Julie Gilhart discusses the future of Fashion

I just read this 7 page long interview with Barney’s of NY Julie Gilhart. Its really worth it! Especially if you are in the fashion industry. Its inspiring, positive and also a bit understanding ( all the work the designers do that has nothing to do with creating…)

She is talking about the need of change – after all fashion is the mirror of the times we do live in. And times are changing.

The rules of what you buy now is different: as quote Seasons are now more defined for us as a chance to buy new things. It’s antiquated to say, “I’m going to buy my spring wardrobe, my fall wardrobe.” Now it’s, “I think I’m going to buy pieces that I can wear and need and can wear for as long as possible.”

And talking about the importance of a more responsable ecological fashion product and how hard it is to actually do that:

But I think it should become easier…If I’m going to work in fashion, I don’t want to be part of the things that are contributing to a worse environment. I want to be part of something that’s contributing to a better environment, and so whatever little we can do, I’m going to try to do that. So it means supporting people that you believe really want to try to do a better job in that way, and actually it goes back to some of the things that the customers really want. They want things that are made well, that are made in a conscious way, that have long-term values, that are beautiful. All of that is part of the story. It’s not just about eco and organic.
