ecological living – style without compromise

I need to go shopping here!!!!!!

Oooooooh what a lovely interior store!!! I need to go here and spend all my money!

Consume till you drop is last centuries plague and it continues into this one but I must admit – it’s sort of fun! So since we do what we do at least we should try doing it well. So here is just a fantastic option for all you shopping freaks out there – especially if your in London and your about to decorate your home.  Eco is  the idea of 2 brothers and a sister with last name Giuggioli, whom partners up with Colin Firth & Ivo Coulson. This is what they say about the project:

Eco is a new retail concept and the first of its kind – a store, showroom, consultancy and green hub that offers inspiration, ideas and specific domestic solutions for all those who want to lead a greener and more energy efficient life.

If I was in the need of redoing my home or even better build my own home then I could get all the help I needed to do so sustainbly and ecologically from ECO consultancy that has a huge library of materials from insulation, flooring, tiles and  paint. They are also ready to help you with the technology of solar energy, roof gardens and low energy lightning.

The store has everything from toys, organic dream cushions, cleaning products, furniture such as 100% recycles beanbags and lamps made from drift wood to bamboo bikes plus fashion! Above is some selection of my own from their on-line shop…which has a really nice design too.

All royalties made from the collection People tree loves Emma will be donated to the People Tree Foundation, an independent charity working alongside People Tree the Fair Trade company. The aim of the Foundation is to bring the benefits of Fair Trade to an even greater number of farmers and artisans through scaling up training, technical support and environmental initiatives and through raising awareness and campaigning for fair and sustainable fashion.

How pull tap bags are made?

Escama Studio, based in San Fransisco and Brazil,  makes beautiful recycled fashion accessories using crochet and recycled aluminum pull-tabs. Yes aluminum pull tabs. And they are very stylish and such an easy accessory to combine with just about anything.  And the thing is: its so geniously made: you don’t notice they are actually aluminum pull tabs. You just see this interesting shiny surface and you want to touch it.

Its also a fair trade project!

Each piece comes with a hang tag bearing the signature of the person who made it. You can read more about this person by visiting Escama Studio web. If you would like to send a thank you note, click the email icon and we will translate your message into Portuguese and forward it on.

The artists work in co-operatives located outside of Brasília, Brazil. The groups offer women and men in the community a means to earn a living wage through handicrafts and provide a setting where friends are made and self-esteem is regained.

Bags from Escama Studios has been published in Elle, Perspective and Time Out HK among others.

See how the pull tap bags are made in below video:

Bridal wear!

I got married last spring around this time of year. As all brides I was on a quest for the most beautifull wedding dress around – its both fun and a true headache. Sometime the dress is stunning but you are just not stunning in it or it’s just out of your reach ( the wallet is to thin…) or its not the right colour. At the end I ended up making my own dress but if I would get married all over again I might take a more serious look at the collection of Jessica Iverson. Designer and creator of couture dresses in ecological friendly materials she is also one of the pioneers in creating maternity wedding dresses making the expecting bride feel just as beautifull as you should on your own very special day! Jessica Iverson currently lives in Santa Barbara, California with her daughter of five.

BACSAC – urban farming

Urban farming is a trend we’ve been following for years, but between the recession and the recent focus on sustainability, it’s showing no sign of slowing down. The latest spotting? French Bacsac, which offers a line of geotextile bags that can be used to transform any space into a growing, living garden.

The Bacsac is a lightweight and portable bag that can be used indoors or out, on terraces, balconies, rooftops and yards. Users simply fill the permeable bags with soil—there are versions in round pot shapes as well as divided squares for larger, modular gardens—and plant to their heart’s content. The bags are made of double-walled and fully recyclable geotextile fabric that maintains the necessary balance between air, soil and water; it’s also resistant to sun, frost and tears. Pot-sized Bacsacs range from 3- to 150-litre sizes, with hanging and window-box styles also available. Bacsquares range in size from two to 16 interior compartments. Custom sizes are also available. With prices starting at about EUR 15 for a 3-litre pot, Bacsac products are available at a variety of retailers worldwide.

World’s biggest garbage dump of PLASTIC

Before starting getting up and starting a new week consider this: don’t use throw away plastic mugs for your coffee, don’t use the plastic bags the supermarket is offering you but bring your own trolley ( its actually helps a lot getting the weight home – the old ladies aren’t wrong! ) buy fruit and veggies from the market or on line by ecological farmers avoiding a plastic bag for each article, buy bread from the baker that is rolled in paper or in nothing, buy fresh fish rolled in paper and not frozen fish packed in portions and in plastic bags….

What Im trying to say: avoid plastic – make an effort! You will end up eating healthier and feel better! And maybe stop the ocean to become a bigger dump then what it allready is!  There is plastic floating around the pacific surface in an area of Texas and California together…startling!  And no one else can take action then us consumers. See video below.

And for your recycling: use these biogradeble non plastic bags from GREEN GENIUS!

FIN – Norway’s finest womens wear collection

FIN is exquisite, made with elegance and style. FIN is where design and awareness are combined into fashion. This is an invitation. An invitation into our dream.

On our path, towards unique results, every step is equally important. We carefully select our material, to achieve the finest expression. The use of organic cotton provides us the luxury of environmentally friendly textiles. Hand spun wild silk, gives us beautiful textures. Organic alpaca gives us the rarest and must precious fibre available. To recognize the hard labour that has gone into producing the fabric in our clothes, we Fairtrade certified cotton. To reduce CO2 levels worldwide, we invest in climate credits to reach the global goal of carbon neutrality. To seal it, we let our eminent designer Per Sivertsen add passion into his creations.

We are quite ambitious about the future, and we are proud to have notable persons such as, Keira Knightley and Kate Bosworth, among our FIN fans. We let all the levels of perfection define our style. That’s why FIN is more than luxurious.

Personally I could just eat their clothes – that’s how good they look! And again, here is just another proof that superb style goes hand in hand with organic. Dress with style!

Mother’s day goodies!

Here are one of my favorite goodies for one of the most important, if maybe not the most important person in your life : MOM! MAMMA! MAMA! MOMMY!

Josie Maran’s cosmetics and skincare products might not make you look awesome like her… but  it will sure help along the way.  According to the former model: It was hard to find products that matched her approach to life – products that are pure and gentle, that contain no toxins or ingredients that damage the planet. The few earth and ecological friendly products she found were lacking the sophistication and the level of luxury she craved. So Josie started her own beauty skin care and makeup line: please visit her web site JOSIE MARAN – luxury with a conscience
